I've now changed my stepped entrance once again. It has reverted back to the long horizontal steps that take up the whole entrance with added value.

The steps break after 8 seated steps to form a walkway and then return to a seat and 3 steps to gain access to the canal basin.
This formation allows the maximum amount of space for 'bums on seats' for an audience to watch the floating stage. Building regulations are also met as the steps are no more than 16 in a row.
Using a seat at the edge of the walkway acts as an informal barrier for the canal basin.
